Bonnie Mercure's_____________
E-Zine Spotlight

The Kovacs Files made its debut in April 2001. This horror/spec fiction e-zine combines fact, fiction, legend, genre news and reviews into a spectacular online site that will appeal to anyone who has interest in the bizarre and unusual, be it fiction or fact.

Best of all, the entire content is one-hundred percent free.

"Horror fiction, reviews, horror tidbits, and lots of links. This is an original site with lots of great content. Check it out." From Carl's Ink, resources for writers.

We begin our monthly E-Zine Spotlights with The Kovacs Files. When the editor, C.M Kovacs, was asked a few questions about his new online publication, this was what he had to say:

Bonnie: Tell me a little about your e-zine "The Kovacs Files." What can speculative fiction readers expect when they browse your site?

C.M. Kovacs: The Kovacs Files will attempt to evolve into not only an extreme possibilities fiction site, but also bringing readers fiction articles, news, media reviews and anything else that might conceivably fit into the genre.

Bonnie: What made you interested in creating "The Kovacs Files" as an e-zine?

C.M. Kovacs: I have been a print journalist for many years; decided I would try my hand at the electronic frontier.

Bonnie: What can we expect in the future at "The Kovacs Files"?

C.M. Kovacs: More excellent, thought-provoking fiction, more true stories of the bizarre from the ends of the earth.

WRITERS GUIDELINES FOR THE KOVACS FILES

FICTION:
Speculative/horror fiction from 1,000 to 3,500 words - flat rate $10.00/piece, paid upon acceptance. Conspiracies, monsters, vampires, werewolves, serial killers, cults and genetic mutations all welcome. Think 'new' urban legends. Traditional horror with a twist -- shaken not stirred. Fiction must be well written and character driven, present or past day, no S & S fantasy, no future sci fi visions. No extreme profanity or graphic, pointless sex -- I'm an old man with a heart condition. No fan fiction. Prefer fresh, previously unpublished fiction. Sim subs okay, but must be proprietary to TKF for one year, if accepted. And please, let us know if the work has been previously published and if it is a sim sub. Fiction will be archived.

NONFICTION:
Articles, and movie, book, television reviews in the bizarre/horror/ speculative fiction arena. Concise, well written, to the point. No rambling diatribes, please. That's why I write editorials. Flat rate: $5.00 up to 1,000 words, paid upon acceptance. Please include single spaced submission in the body of your e-mail. Include all pertinent data, including bio, pic if you want one posted, etc.

IMPORTANT: Reading cycles.
The Kovacs Files will be presenting new fiction quarterly. The submission dates for each quarter are as follows:
- February 1 - March 15th for April 1, 2001 issue.
- May 1 - 31st for July 1, 2001 issue.
- August 1 - 30th for October 1, 2001 issue.
- November 1 - 30 for January 1, 2002 issue.

Non-fiction will be considered on an 'as received' basis.
