Bay Of Blood
81 minutes (18) 1971
Director: Mario Bava
Cast: Claudine Auger, Luigi Pistilli, Claudio Volante, Anna Maria Rosati
review by David J. King

The archetypal slasher picture (aka: Bloodbath — and once banned in the UK as a ‘video nasty’) Bay Of Blood tells the gruesomely funny story of 13 homicidal heirs to a beautiful manor estate and what they do to each other to get the land for themselves. Watch daft sods running about in dark woods. Gasp as the bloated corpse pops up near a nude swimmer. Puke at the roomful of fashion victims. Here, blondes die young and the crimson gushing of arterial spray is usually aimed straight at the camera. Mario Bava’s Grand Guignol in a contemporary setting has splatter enough even for a hardened gorehound. Bay Of Blood is bloody good!
