Beetlejuice
92 minutes 1988

Tim Burton's mixed bag of supernatural tricks is a wildly inventive fantasy comedy tale of ghosties, ghoulies and things going bump day and night.
Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis plays the newlyweds, killed in a car accident and not very good at being dead. So, when their dream home is bought by the Deetz family, they hire Betelguese (a way OTT performance by Michael Keaton), "bio-exorcist" who tries to scare the living people away.
Good special effects and clever designs - the afterlife scenes in particular - but some of the film's ideas just don't work. It's a matter of narrative structure; too many wacky, disposable gags are crammed in that don't fit or make much sense. It all falls apart at the seams about halfway through.
