Dance With Me

126 minutes (PG) EV
Director: Randa Haines
review by Jeff Young

Unimaginatively titled dance movie starring Cuban hunk Chayanne, opposite Vanessa L. Williams, as a cold hearted choreography bound performer whose career lounges in the doldrums until romance blooms with untrained Mr C. The supporting players are a mixed bunch. Was the casting agency that desperate? Jane Krakowski, the blonde sexpot legal secretary from Ally McBeal shows off the sort of athletic moves she never quite manages on TV, Joan Plowright plays a limber old biddy who aims to relive past quickstep glories, while grizzled old Kris Kristofferson appears secretly embarrassed to be getting paid for this ballroom soap. If you like salsa, and those Latin 'Come Dancing' competitions, this one's for you and you're welcome to it. If not, then I doubt very much whether the skimpiest costume and the fastest tango in the world offer entertainment value enough to separate you from your hard-earned cash.
