Hollywood Goes To War
: Music From The Great American War Films
Silver Screen, FILMXCD 333

Over two hours of orchestral music that is recorded from, you guessed it, Hollywood war films recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic with Crouch End Festival Chorus, conducted by Paul Bateman and Nic Raine. Thirty themes taken from films about the likes of - the American War of Independence, Civil War, First and Second World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and the Cold War.
This is mainly an album for orchestral music lovers with a bit of dramatical pomposity coupled with a healthy euphoria of war films. On the first CD tracks 3 is a narrative of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address by Daniel Massy. In the right hands this album could be just what the Doctor ordered. I'm glad they included 'Suicide Is Painless' from M*A*S*H, and the bomb run from Dr Strangelove. Epic stuff.
