DOWSE Guide to the
by Tony Lee editor of
Guidelines for Contributors
Contributions are always welcome for this section of the Dowse website.
Movies-on-Dowse (MoD) wants interviews - with directors, screenwriters,
film producers, and actors. Also: filmographies of directors, movie stars, celebrity
profiles, and critical articles (topical or retrospective) on any subject or aspect
of cinema, visual media, and fandom.
We are interested in overviews of film series, polemic, commentary,
essays, and other opinion pieces. Whether you're an expert or just a beginner, MoD is
the best place to send your creative writings on the movies.
Anything from 250+ to 5,000+ words will be considered, and we welcome
previously published works that have not appeared online.
There are a number of different sections at MoD, and each is dedicated to a
particular field such as films, books, music, etc.
Reviews from 100 to 1,000 words will be considered. Previously published
work that has not appeared online is welcome.
- New Century of Cinema
MoD wants your reviews of any feature-length film released since 1995.
Even if a particular film has already been reviewed on the MoD site, we may still be
interested in a second opinion - if your view differs from the existing comments.
The place for books on MoD requires your reviews of any cinema or media related
titles. International coverage of hardcopy publications on the cinema - including:
actor/director biographies, movie guides, making-of books, film criticism, etc.
The MoD archive for reviews of original soundtracks and TV theme music.
Covers movie-related software, and image-conscious products. This looks at
computer/video games based on films, and some new technology in the form of portable
consumer electronics. Reviews of games and products are welcome.
MoD pages for film fans!
A list is something that everyone can do, so you have no excuse for not contributing
to these archives - whether you suffer from lists-o-mania, or not!
- All Time Favourites
What's required for this page is a list of 10 films, of any genre - comedy, fantasy,
horror, romance, science fiction, western, etc.
Or simply a general list of films you like - you pick the criteria.
And that's it! Any notes or explanation as to why you have chosen those
particular titles is optional.
Before sending your list, first, check out the listings.
- Magic Movie Moments
Pick a scene from a favourite film and write about it -
Why do you like it? What does it mean to you?
50 to 200 words for this spot, please.
Check out the above link to read some great examples.
