This sequel to Ice Cube's Friday, is set a few years after the big fight between our slacker hero and a South Central LA gangster, sees 'Mr Cube' take a trip into the suburbs, hoping to escape the revenge of that defeated neighbourhood hood, now out of prison. Staying at his supposedly wealthy uncle's house, Cube simply drifts from one dumb skit or laughable situation to the next - as when he chats up the babe (Lisa Rodriguez) next door, only to find out that her moronic brother is a suspicious and violent drug-dealer.
Next Friday is a pretty worthless comedy, with a lame script, predictable gags and one-note moral: wherever you go, people are the same. The predatory black mama's bedroom is stacked with porn shop paraphernalia; the record shop's staff room is a dope den, and the big party scene opts for a ludicrously sexist attitude, and bad taste date-rape jokes. If it's possible to make a film that's more farcically unappealing, socially ignorant and crudely offensive than this - well, it shouldn't be allowed. However, if you find clowns falling down in dog shit amusing then, by all means, hurry out to [store name deleted] and rent this now.
