Quadrophenia: Music From the Soundtrack
The Who, Polydor 543 691-2
review by Dave W. Hughes

I must be honest with you and admit I was a little disappointed when I got this album. The reason was I was expecting the studio double! Mercenary, I know, but, well, this'll do nicely thank you! In many respects the 'other' artists on this single OST album do actually add to the period the film was set. With the exception of The Who, and the High Numbers (who're the same, just earlier) we get the likes of Cross Section, The Ronettes, The Crystals, James Brown, Kingsmen, Cascades, and Booker T with the classic Green Onions. Right, so, apart from the scene-setters, what we got by the main men, then? Well, mainly, 'highlights' from the aforesaid classic double. Gems such as 5.15, Bellboy, Doctor Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, and I've Had Enough. An odd album in that it pales to the original, but as an OST, it's one of the best there is, all 23 tracks.
